Near Natal on the northeastern coast of Brazil are many outcrops of wave-eroded red conglomerates. These have been erosded by wave action into rounded remnants with many cavities. Some are more iron-rich than others, producing differential erosional features. They underlie sand dunes and cliffs (falesias)that are prominent features of the region, and make it one of the best tourist regions in the state of Rio Grande de Norte (RN).
