G-Camp for Teachers

• Starts in College Station, Texas

When:
• July 11–26, 2026 (teachers arrive July 11).

How Much:
• No cost for the camp itself — travel expenses during G-Camp (bus, hotels) are covered, and teachers receive a stipend for meals if they complete all requirements. Participants are responsible only for getting themselves to/from College Station.

G-Camp is a fully funded, 16-day immersive geology field experience for 5th–12th grade science teachers hosted by the Texas A&M University Department of Geology & Geophysics. Taking place July 11–26, 2026, the program begins with a two-day kickoff in College Station, Texas, before traveling by bus through Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado to explore real-world geological features such as faults, volcanic landscapes, and glacial valleys. About 30 teachers are selected each year, and while participants are responsible for getting themselves to College Station, all program travel, lodging, and a meal stipend are covered. Applications, including two letters of recommendation, are due April 1, 2026.n.

The Resilient Futures Teacher Workshop is back for 2026!

Join middle school and high school educators for a three-day in-person teacher workshop July 28-30, 2026. Engage in sessions featuring education resources, scientist talks, lab tours, and networking opportunities hosted by CEEE, NOAA, and friends. This workshop will cover topics such as climate science, natural hazards, water resources, climate mental health, data literacy, and more. Participants will leave with classroom-ready lessons and activities and can receive either a 20-hour PD certificate or 1–2 Continuing Education credits from the University of Colorado Boulder upon course completion. After pre-registration closes, a small registration fee will be required when official registration opens. Participants who complete the course will also receive a gift card.

The JOIDES Resolution (JR) is a ship that operates on behalf of the International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) and is one of just a handful of vessels designed specifically to drill into the ocean floor for scientific research. The cylinders of sediment and rock that are recovered from the ocean floor—called "cores"—can be considered time machines, revealing secrets from Earth's past about geology, climate change, and the origins and extremes of life. The evidence these cores provide gives a vital foundation and real-world data for understanding key topics addressed in NGSS performance expectations.

In this session, participants will learn how to incorporate free JR resources into their curricula to make science real for their students. Attendees will take part in activities related to cores and microfossils, and will learn how to access resources including additional classroom activities and core replicas that can be borrowed for classroom use. Participants will come away with data-based resources that will get students engaged in real-world science.

Spend three weeks (June 10–28) at the Exploratorium in San Francisco learning how to introduce more inquiry into your classroom. Collaborate with other teachers to deepen your own practice, build content knowledge, and support a more equitable learning environment. Explore natural phenomena related to human perception, physical science, life science, Earth science, and the environment. Engage in activities that promote noticing, wondering, and experimenting so you can build understanding and create equitable and anti-racist science classrooms.

Applicants must be current in-classroom science teachers of grades 6–12 and should have at least three years’ experience teaching science in a classroom. Educators of color and educators working in public schools, especially Title I schools, are encouraged to apply.

The Summer Institute is free of charge; attendees pay only for travel, food, and lodging. Each participant will be awarded a $2,500 stipend after completing the institute. Six graduate-level semester units of continuing education credits are available for a fee.

Rubin Observatory, in partnership with NSF’s NOIRLab, welcomes applications for a professional development opportunity for high school and college educators who teach astronomy as part of their courses. The week-long in-person workshop will take place in Tucson, AZ at the NOIRLab Headquarters with special sessions held at Kitt Peak National Observatory and the Richard F. Caris Mirror Lab.

Participants will be immersed in the operations and technology of a modern working observatory and learn about the discoveries that will be enabled by Rubin Observatory and NOIRLab telescopes. Participants will explore the Rubin and NOIRLab classroom activities that make use of authentic data.

My NASA Data is seeking interns experienced in teaching Earth Science, environmental science, and/or Earth Systems Science at the middle or high school level to assist in the development of Earth science education resources. This is a paid position and remote work is possible.

The opportunity includes but is not limited to reviewing, editing, and developing resources, making resources accessible on the internet, as well as training others in the implementation of My NASA Data resources. Formal education teachers with experience using the Next Generation Science Standards are preferred. This intern will assist in developing resources for grades 3-12 that are NASA assets aligned with current research-based education theory and practice.

The position requires a degree in education, Earth science, or Environmental Science, and teaching experience in Earth/Environmental Sciences is preferred. Teaching experience at the middle or high school level is required.

The Master of Arts in Teaching Earth Science Residency Program at the American Museum of Natural History is a full-time, fifteen-month fellowship program that takes place at the museum and in urban partner schools. We seek a student body with diverse life and career experience who want to change lives by becoming culturally responsive middle- and high-school Earth science teachers. All degree candidates will receive free tuition and books, a $40,000 living stipend, and financial and professional support throughout their first two years of teaching. In return, candidates commit to teaching in a high-needs school for three years. 

The fellowship is intended for graduates with a background in Earth science and related fields (e.g., Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, or Space Science). Partnerships Provide Safe Drinking Water to Rural Communities, 1 p.m. EDT, Monday, October 9. Geoscientists can form innovative relationships to solve problems that a community may face. Speakers will share how scientists and students have worked together and used a variety of techniques to locate safe drinking water for rural communities.
Drones for Earth Science, 1 p.m. EDT, Tuesday, October 10. Drones allow us to study Earth in new ways. Collected data can help monitor phenomena such as natural hazards, climate change, and resource extraction. This webinar will explore many ways that drones are being used in the geosciences, including recent drone innovations and classroom applications.
Photogrammetry: Introduction and Applications in Geoscience and Geoscience Education, 1 p.m. EDT, Wednesday, October 11. Three-dimensional models can be used to inspect samples, such as rocks or corals, and model environmental changes over time. Speakers will introduce photogrammetry, a method for creating 3D models, and its many applications in geoscience education and research.
The Future of Earth's Critical Materials, 1 p.m. EDT, Thursday, October 12. Critical minerals, and more broadly critical materials, are essential for many industries and products, but the availability of these materials is at risk. This webinar will discuss both critical minerals and materials. Talks include an innovative method for locating critical minerals, as well as ways in which students, educators, and the public can engage with critical materials.
The Invisible Mine: Envisioning the Future of Mining in Europe, 1 p.m. EDT, Friday, October 13. Emerging robotic technologies are set to revolutionize the future of mining. This webinar will discuss cutting-edge innovations in artificial intelligence-guided robotics funded by European Union research programs. The aim is to highlight the emergence of a new paradigm of near-invisible, minimally invasive mining enhanced by robotics, where raw materials are supplied reliably and ethically without harming natural ecosystems or human communities.

PhET Interactive Simulations project at the University of Colorado Boulder creates free interactive simulations and virtual labs for science and math learning. PhET simulations are teaching tools that can support conceptual learning and skill development, but they are most effective when used in a teaching context that makes use of evidence-based, student-centered teaching and learning practices. During this webinar, participants will get a brief introduction to PhET simulations by engaging in open play with a simulation, exploring the website, coming up with simple sequences of how simulations can be linked to teach core concepts, and learning more about how to go deeper with PhET pedagogies.

Hybrid internship opportunities for early career and college age colleagues.

Dear community,

Earth to Sky is recruiting paid NASA interns for summer 2023! All three internships are for the summer term. They are hybrid, meaning that the intern can choose whether to do the majority of the work remotely from home, or while working in person at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD with reasonable telework flexibility. Each internship includes a stipend, which is intended to cover the costs of housing and (in the case of remote work) a trip to a NASA center to complete the badging process. If the internship requires other travel, it will be covered by our program. Learn more about the NASA internship program here.

Climate Interpretation Training Intern: This paid internship at NASA is for an early-career place-based interpreter, such as a seasonal park ranger, no more than 3 years out of college. The stipend is $9000. The term is 10 weeks, from June 5 to August 11, 2023, and there may be an opportunity to extend the end date and increase the stipend accordingly. Working with our unique interagency partnership, develop your climate interpretation skills and your training and mentoring experience! This intern will help us develop our next Earth to Sky climate communication course, which will likely take place in Florida. The intern will also work on a variety of other projects, including their own climate interpretation program or product. Apply here! The application deadline is March 1, 2023.

Climate Communication and Interpretation Intern: This paid internship at NASA is for a college student who aspires to be an interpreter, such as a park ranger or naturalist. The stipend is $7300. The internship is 10 weeks, from June 5 to August 11, 2023. Become part of a unique interagency community and get experience in climate communication and leading interpretation training! The intern will help develop our next Earth to Sky climate communication course, which will likely take place in Florida. Apply here! The application deadline is March 1, 2023.

Eclipse Outreach Intern: This paid internship at NASA is for a college senior interested in a career in interpretation (like park rangers), space science, or science communication. The stipend is $7300. The internship is 10 weeks, from June 5 to August 11, 2023. Connect with parks around the country and develop your interpretation, presentation, and science skills! With the help of the Earth to Sky team, the intern will assist parks around the country in preparing for the upcoming solar eclipses of October 14, 2023 and April 8, 2024. Apply here! Citizen Science GIS NSF REU/RET Site Overview: This summer virtually through Citizen Science GIS at University of Central Florida, we are pleased to host the 7th year of our National Science Foundation Research Experiences for Undergraduates & Teachers (REU/RET) Site Preparing the Next Generation of Scholars through Community GIS and Citizen Science. Our in-person program offers fully funded summer research experiences for eight undergraduate students and four K-12 teachers. Participants will be in both Orlando and Belize for the summer as part of the program.

Eligibility requirements: As an NSF-funded program, we are open to all U.S. citizens and permanent residents. We are interdisciplinary emphasizing community geography, community GIS, and citizen science through mixed methods, including sketch mapping, mobile mapping applications, focus groups, in-depth interviews, GIS, spatial analysis, and drones. Since 2016, over 70% of participants have been from underrepresented groups in STEM, and from several disciplines including geography, GIS, environmental studies, sociology, anthropology, biology, chemistry, political science, business/economics, education, and more.

Accessibility statement: Our NSF REU/RET Site and learning community is committed to including and supporting students and teachers with identities that are commonly underrepresented in the field sciences. Specifically, program faculty and staff have experience in supporting and mentoring students with disabilities, and we have partnered with the International Association for Geoscience Diversity (www.theiagd.org) in this effort.

Research directions: Work with community partners and mentors from University of Central Florida, Esri, University of Belize, and The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural Historys Caribbean Coral Reef Ecosystems Program. Research Direction 1: Leveraging community geography & GIS to map disparities in flooding. Research Direction 2: Leveraging community geography & GIS to reduce waste and prevent marine debris.

Funding: $4200 research stipend, $750 for post-REU conference travel or industry visits, technology support, and all expenses covered for 2023 Belize fieldwork.

We are using the webinar sessions to recruit middle and high school science teachers to pilot the AQ6-12 lesson in their classroom and provide the K12 Education Committee with feedback. Selected teachers may earn a $1,000.00 stipend during the Spring 2023 semester for completing all tasks. Teachers from public, charter, and private or independent schools who teach environmental science topics in their science classrooms are eligible to apply. We anticipate about 10 hours of work. Middle and high school science teachers in private, public, and charter schools are eligible to participate. We strongly encourage Title I middle and high school science teachers to submit an application as well as middle and high school science teachers from schools in areas chronically exposed to poor air quality.

The short term goal is to apply teacher feedback to improve the AQ6-12 lesson for national distribution. The long term goal is to provide students and their teachers with the fundamental concepts and skills to become aware of Air Quality issues and consider actions that protect clean air.
