Provides individual and group instruction to students assigned to Earth Science classes. Prepares lesson plans; organizes teaching materials; develops tests and worksheets; and carries out instruction in subject area according to course curriculum.

This is a 12-month position working with incarcerated high school male students.

Qualifications: Knowledge of current teaching techniques, preferably in the subject area of Geology or a related science; the ability to communicate effectively specifically in the development of learning objectives; and the ability to organize and present instructional materials to students of various educational levels. Effective computer skills. Must be able to meet the physical and environmental demands for the position. Requires a Bachelor's Degree in Geology or a related science. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License. Teaching experience in an educational environment, alternative school setting, or state facility is preferred.
Salary range: $45,181 - $67,794.

Earth Science Teacher

Tracy Unified School District is seeking a credentialed teacher or an Intern ready applicant for an Earth Science/Biology position. Geoscience or Physical Science majors with CSET exams will be considered.

  • A minimum salary of $42,166 for teachers with BA/BS plus 30 semester units and a valid California credential
  • Adjusted minimum salary of $40,276 for teachers with less than 30 semester units above a BA/BS who qualify for a valid credential
  • Step increases are added each year until the 12th year; then 15th, 18th, 21st, 24th and 27th years where salary tops out at $74, 431
  • A teacher may enter on Step 15 of the current salary schedule if they verify 14 years of acceptable public school teaching experience
  • Annual stipend of $1,556 is granted for Doctorate degree and Masters degree. Alternative Ed., Bilingual, ESL, ELD, LSH, Resource and Special Education teachers are paid a $1,556 annual stipend, as well as technology support advisors
  • Employer contributes cap of $8,482 per teacher towards health plan, vision care, life insurance, dental and prescription service for employee and all eligible dependents. employee pays balance according to his/her plan choice

Online Certified 9th -12th Grade Earth Science Teaching Position

Nexus Learning provides real-time virtual classes taught by certified, subject-specific instructors to public school children who are homebound. We match students and teachers in classes scheduled during regular, specific time slots.

Certified teachers teach remotely from home, using their own personal computer. Teachers must have a broadband connection, such as cable or DSL, and must be technologically proficient in computers, applications, and Internet usage.

Currently, we are hiring certified 9th – 12th Grade Earth Science Teachers. WestEd’s Assessment and Standards Development Services (ASDS) Program is seeking an experienced educational assessment associate who can work independently and as part of the ASDS team on a variety of assessment-related projects. This position will coordinate major assessment development activities as well as write and review assessment items and other materials.

Position Description
The Director of Science Development will work directly with ASDS’ Director of Test Development in the development, review and editing of standards, test items and related test materials (e.g., scoring guides, annotated student responses) used in statewide assessments. The Director of Science Development also will oversee the results of curriculum- and assessment-alignment studies performed for districts and states.

Responsibilities
Coordinate major activities in ongoing assessment projects, focusing on science
Facilitate test item development and item review meetings
Draft and review assessment items and scoring rubrics
Develop assessment support materials, such as annotated teacher guides and practice tests
Develop training materials for item writers
Collaborate with clients and partners
Contribute to research and project reports
Contribute to proposal development efforts
Coordinate test development activities related to science

Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Science or related field
3+ years of experience in assessment development or operations
Experience presenting to, training, and facilitating groups
Strong analytical skills
Strong command of oral and written language
Classroom teaching experience (elementary, middle and high school)
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effectively collaborate with co-workers and clients
Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities

Geoscience teaching position

A full-time Geoscience teaching position is available immediately at Crescenta Valley High School in the Glendale Unified School District, Glendale, California. The successful candidate will have (or be eligible for) a California Single Subject teaching credential in Geoscience, or be eligible for a University internship in Geoscience through passage of the CSET exam, a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Earth/Space science(s), or 32 academic units in Earth/Space science(s). Placement on the salary schedule will be commensurate with verified academic background and years of teaching experience at an accredited school. The salary range for a fully credentialed teacher is $42,446 (entry level) - $78,447 (includes longevity). We accept up to eleven years of verified teaching experience for placement on the salary schedule, per the collective bargaining agreement. Health and Welfare benefits are paid by the District.

Earth Science Outreach/Informal Education Specialist

The Incorporated Research Institutions for Seismology (IRIS), a university research consortium funded by the National Science Foundation, has an immediate opening for an individual with informal science education experience and a commitment to geoscience education to join its national Education and Outreach Program. This Washington, DC based position involves a range of responsibilities including: developing and maintaining museum displays, coordinating the school seismograph program, developing and improving print and Web-based educational resources, and outreach at national conferences and to the general public.

The ideal candidate will have a combination of training and/or experience in: informal science education, science writing, earth science including seismology, and education technology. An undergraduate degree in science education, geoscience or related degree and excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are required, and an MS degree is preferred. The candidate must be able to work effectively and collegially with teachers, museum staff, members of the IRIS Consortium, and other educational partners.
