River mud forced up by landslide on Palisades of the Hudson (1)

In 2012, a landslide brought large boulders down from the cliffs of the Palisades in Alpine, NJ, building out into the Hudson River. In place, muds on what had been the river bottom were forced up to the surface. Small mollusk fossils and even varve-like structures can be seen in places within the mud.
