Gettysburg battlefield looking toward Roundtop and Little Roundtop
Geology played a major role in the outcome of the Battle of Gettysburg. This image shows the main battlefield from the viewpoint of Conferederate artillery, located on a basaltic dyke that rises above the more-eroded sediemntary rocks. In the distance are Roundtop and Little Roundtop. See accompanying images for more about these features.
