Do you live within the New Madrid Seismic Zone (IL, IN, KY, MO, MS, AR, and TN)?
If so then this workshop is for you. The University of Missouri Science Education Center is offering a summer workshop for science teachers (grades 7-14) about earthquakes at the University of Missouri in Columbia. This particular PIRE grant is a joint research partnership between China, United States, IRIS and UNAVCO. The workshop is being offered only to teachers that teach within the New Madrid Seismic Zone (IL, IN, KY, MO, MS, AR, and TN) because the grant particularly focuses upon intraplate earthquakes boundaries. The workshop will be held from July 10-18, 2012. One requirement for the teachers selected is that they must teach about earthquakes to their students.
The deadline for applying for the workshop is April 10, 2012 and can you believe all the expenses will be paid for. In addition three hours of graduate credit (not CE units) will be provided, a fieldtrip experience to the New Madrid Seismic Zone, and a stipend will also be given to the participants.
