Airburst from Meteorite Injures Hundreds in Russia
About 9:20 am local time on February 15, 2013, the sounds of explosions in Chelyabinsk, Russia, announced the arrival of a meteorite in the skies above the city (1500 km east of Moscow). The meteorite exploded, generating fragments that peppered the city, injuring over 500 people mainly from broken glass.
