Awards

NESTA recognizes exceptional achievement and service through five levels of awards.

Certificate of Service or Certificate of Appreciation is presented to those who contribute to the well-being of NESTA. These persons may be those who have served as an elected or appointed official, or they may be individuals or organizations who have provided exceptional support for NESTA. To begin the nomination of an individual or organization for this award, please contact Parker Pennington at parkiv@umich.edu.

Honorary Membership is awarded to selected teachers and/or board members. This one year, free membership carries with it all the rights and responsibilities of regular membership and is acknowledged with a certificate of status. To begin the nomination of an individual for this award for this award, please contact Parker Pennington at parkiv@umich.edu.

Distinguished Service Award Award is presented to officers and volunteers who provide dedicated service. Nominations are made by the Board of Directors and recipients are acknowledged with a certificate of status. To begin the nomination of an individual, please contact Parker Pennington at parkiv@umich.edu.

Fellow nominees are five-year members who contribute substantially and with excellence to Earth Science education and to NESTA itself. The nomination and at least 3 letters of support are to be submitted by January 15th or the closest Saturday to that date. The Executive Committee has final approval of this recognition, whose annual number shall not exceed 1% of the NESTA membership at the end of that calendar year. Recipients are acknowledged with a certificate of status and recognition at the annual meeting and in The Earth Scientist. To begin the nomination of an individual, please contact Parker Pennington at parkiv@umich.edu.

Jan and Stoney Award In honor of two of the founders of NESTA, the Jan Woerner/Harold B. Stonehouse Award is given semi-annually at the discretion of the NESTA Executive Committee, in recognition of an individual or organization's efforts in promoting Earth Science education in keeping with the goals of NESTA. Nomination procedures are quite specific, so to begin the nomination of an individual or organization for this award, please contact Parker Pennington at parkiv@umich.edu.
