During the week of May 13th, the CO2 level at the Mauna Loa Observatory in Hawaii topped 400 ppm repeatedly. Daily levels of CO2 can vary due to weather, and there are seasonal trends as well.
2011 Report from Regional Director - South Central
ACTIVITIES SINCE LAST BOARD MEETING (March 2010)
• Attended the Oklahoma Academy of Science fall technical conference (2010) as a
member of OAS Board of Directors and as Chair of the geology section - promoting
earth science education
• Attended the fall meeting 2010 of the Oklahoma Science Teachers Association
sponsoring a booth to advocate for NESTA and a state-wide network of earth science
teachers
• Participated in NESTA teleconferences as schedule permitted
• Served on the planning committee for a two-week elementary school teachers summer
earth science institute through a partnership which included a regional state
university and local public school districts
• Served on the Project Learning Tree Steering Committee to establish a mission
statement and PLT goals for Oklahoma (an aspect is the incorporation of earth
science along with environmental science – getting students outdoors)
• Attended the spring meeting 2011 of the Oklahoma Association for Environmental
Education, serving on a panel which discussed teacher resources (curriculum tools)
available through NESTA
No budget expenses noted. Regional director expenses (as developed) were covered by University departmental budget.
The Regional director has not made contact with states in the region. With a new second term, that is a goal of the regional director.
