7.6 Magnitude Earthquake hits Kashmir, 2005

On this date in 2005, a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit the Pakistani-controlled part of Kashmir at 8:52 am local time. At least 86,000 people were killed, with more than 69,000 injured and extensive damage in northern Pakistan. The Muzaffarabad area of Kashmir was the most heavily damaged, where entire villages were destroyed. At Uri, 80% of the town was destroyed. At least 32,335 buildings collapsed across the area.
