Understanding of climate change and computer climate models is crucial for the growing number of professions in which people are helping determine the effects of climate change or are involved in the assessment of global warming's impact on society. Providing students with the necessary skills and information to enter these professions means that educators must have access to the Global Climate Models that are the primary tool of climate prediction research. The Educational Global Climate Modeling Project (EdGCM) is the first to create a user-friendly, research-grade, global climate model that runs on ordinary desktop computers. EdGCM integrates the climate model with database and visualization capabilities so students can experience real end-to-end research in the science classroom.
